| UK FIELD STUDY COURSE 2007
- May 11, 2007
May 11 -
A visit to Sellafield on the Irish Sea coast. This is the site of the world’s first commercial nuclear power station (1956). The power station closed in 2003 and the site is now a nuclear decommissioning and reprocessing centre.
May 11 - The huge cooling towers seen here, part of the power station, were demolished four months after our visit – to the dismay of local fishermen, who used them as landmarks when out at sea.

May 11 - Sellafield Visitor Centre. Not visible is the Canadian flag flying out front in our honour.

May 11 - After our exhaustive tour, a short break at St Bees Head: on the rocks....
May 11 - .. and on the sand.
