In the morning, a visit to the Honister Slate Mine; the last working slate mine (as opposed to open quarry) in England. Then across to the coast to Whitehaven and a tour of the Rum Story. This is an extensive display of the involvement of a wealthy local family in the West Indian rum trade – 2007 was the Bicentenary of the ending of the slave trade.
