May 8 - The Cursing Stone. A modern transcription of a local 16th-century curse against robbers and highwaymen in the Carlisle area. Since it was installed as part of a Millennium project in 2001, the area has suffered a severe foot-and-mouth outbreak amongst livestock, there has been a devastating flood, factories have closed, and the local football (soccer) team was relegated from its league. Once city councillor called for the destruction of the stone.

May 8 -Entrance to Carlisle Castle. The Record Office, with the archive collection, is right inside the castle.
